I never thought SS would be around when I got old enough.
SS used to send out a statement every year saying what your new benefit would be. I haven't gotten one for a long time, but getting an estimate is available on-line. Wouldn't hurt to look at it and compare what your employer withheld and paid in, to make sure the numbers match. We also had a guy planning on retiring and when he submitted his paperwork, they said he did not exist in their system. Took him over 4 months to get problem solved. Turned out the problem was a typo on his ssn number when was first hired, he said.
And for even younger kids (like my kids age)...
(1) Its impossible to save to much. Every four dollars slipping thru your fingers, is the same thing throwing away five dollar bill because of taxes at 25%.
(2) I can't believe you would stay at a job with no retirement plan and make a career out of it. I know there are a lots less places today with retirement programs than it the past, but still there are many places have retirement plans.
(Become a RV dweller out of choice, not because you have to, big difference)
