Same here. I remember Barry Goldwater saying in '64 that SS wouldn't be there when I retired. I believed that so I planned and saved for my own retirement. Not upset that Barry got it wrong though, actually quite happy I believed him and prepared. I got pushed into retirement a couple of years before I'd planned, but was well ahead financially on my retirement plan. My financial advisor suggested I live on savings until reaching full retirement age and then file for SS which I did. Monthly SS checks more than pay for my RVing habit. I now understand why my financial advisor kept asking me every year when I was going to retire. Should have taken her advice and retired years ago.
