There is no moral dilemma here.
Is it yours? Answer is NO
DO you know who it belongs to? Answer is yes.
Should you have picked it up? NO !
IT WAS NOT YOURS
I guess you've never picked up a piece of garbage in your neighborhood and put it in a nearby trashcan huh? Sure hope that "high horse" that you are riding on is your's, not one that you stumbled across...
No it has to do with a moral upbringing and being taught BY MY PARENTS to leave stuff alone that does not belong to me. So I would have left the horse where I found it. I would have thrown the garbage away (see conversion below)
I do not have situational ethics/morals.
It is one of the 10 commandments thou shall not steal.
Conversion is conversion
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/conversion
"conversion
n. a civil wrong (tort) in which one converts another's property to his/her own use, which is a fancy way of saying "steals." Conversion includes treating another's goods as one's own, holding onto such property which accidently comes into the convertor's (taker's) hands, or purposely giving the impression the assets belong to him/her. This gives the true owner the right to sue for his/her own property or the value and loss of use of it, as well as going to law enforcement authorities since conversion usually includes the crime of theft"
To me the taking of another's property is immoral the cost does not matter.
