There is no moral dilemma here.
Is it yours? Answer is NO
DO you know who it belongs to? Answer is yes.
Should you have picked it up? NO !
IT WAS NOT YOURS
ABSOLUTELY. Since the owner was readily identifiable even though it's not of huge monetary value, contacting the company and asking them about it should be the first step. Chances are they are just going to say keep it. However, what you DON'T know is if the truck driver/distributor gets charged for anything he loses. Getting it back to it's rightful owner MIGHT have a positive impact. A simple phone call is all it would take.
What's shameful here is that so many put the emphasis on the value of the item and not the value of doing the right thing and then critcize those who even question it's morality. Money is not relevant. Good morals are priceless as is a clear conscience. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. Principle my friends.
