No offense, but you WERE wrong to keep it.
That is exactly why I recalled this story. I've had to live with this decision to keep it, and it still doesn't settle with me. It's an example for the OP to do the right thing or the wrong decision may gnaw away at him for years.
Unfortunately, it was so long ago now, and so many campgrounds ago, i absolutely do not even remember where we were camping when I found it now.
