I find it interesting that so many say, "keep it." A couple years ago I put a post on these forums that I found a monocular, ) you know, like pirates on a ship use too look at the horizon) left on the picnic table a couple campsites down on a Monday morning after the campground pretty much cleared out from the week-end. I kept the monocular and posted about it. I got beat up pretty bad by folks saying I should have turned it in to park office .... bla, bla, bla. and my keeping it was just shy of the unpardonable sin!
Now here, everyone is saying to keep it! My how times have changed so quickly!
FYI, I still have that monocular in the camper, along with a binocular, and use it all the time. Yes, every time I pick it up, I still think... I wonder if I should have turned it into the park office.
But then, I also think of all the different objects I've forgotten at various campsites, and did go back to retrieve them, and find them gone!
It begs the question, why didn't you simply drop it off at the office. I think its pretty simple the person that left it is either going to come back or call to see if some HONEST person turned it in. Your story has nothing to do with this crate issue.
IMO you wanted that item, that was not yours. How else can it play out , if you had been honest about it ,most likely the rightful owner would have got back his item. There should be no wondering whether you should of turned it in to the office, you know the answer for crying out loud.
