I did see a bit of self-righteousness by one poster, but I found that the exception. Most have simply said "it takes little effort to make a quick call and the result will eliminate the moral question.
But, I fully admit that I was the child who tattled on myself BEFORE doing something questionable because I cared about not being a thief/etc. And that it greatly reduced my punishment if they stopped me before the action. Before the action, I got a long boring lecture; after the action, I got punished. And before the action, my mom was very good at identifying ethical ways to get the result I wanted. So it was usually a win-win situation for me. My siblings who did what they wanted and disregarded ethics, etc, usually ended up with nothing in the end. They didn't like me much.
