Something catching on slide

Well I have a brand new 2015 Shasta oasis 30qb. We have not used it yet. Brought it home and leveled it up. Went out 1 month later and checked to make sure it was still level then slid out the slide. Well the slide acted like it was kinda dragging on the one side. Not terrible but noticeable. I crawled under it and seen where something ripped the black moisture barrier and scratched the plywood. This is my first slide out and am having second thoughts now. Brand new and problems already. Any idea what it might be causing this? I will take to dealer to get fixed but this sucks.
  • Be sure to call every day. The dealerships are getting busy about now and new trailer sales always trump service issues so you'll likely need to become a pest to get any kind of speedy service. I'd ask the Service manager to be proactive and call the manufacturer rather than waiting until they call him.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Well I took it in they have had it for one week. I called today to see how things are going. I guess they are wanting to pull out the slide to see what is dragging on the bottom. They are waiting on manufacture to OK pulling out the slide. They called them in wed and haven't heard back yet on the OK to do so.
  • Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of knowledge here. Fellow members have saved my bacon many times. If it can happen to an RV it has happened to someone on this forum. You might also look for a specific Shasta owner's forum.

Cute unit! I looked it up on the net. Shasta has been in business for a long time and have a good reputation.

You can check the slide alignment yourself. This can be done either when putting it out or taking it in. When the slide starts to move look to see if either the front or back of the slide start to move before the other. Stop about halfway and measure the distance from the side of the unit to the outside edge of slide. The measurement front and back should be very close.

If it is out of alignment, it is a fairly simple fix. It should take less than an hour depending on the slide mechanism and location. The torn seal may have to be ordered.

Just an FYI. Dragging slide can also be a sign of a major defect such as an out of square slide out room. Don't mean to scare you. A vast majority of us have many, many cycles on our slides with no problems.

Just stay on top of the issue and keep us informed.
  • Sounds like maybe a stray screw sticking up in the opening of the slide. You're going to have a few more issues with your new unit. These things are too complex and are being assembled by people with varying skill levels to be perfect right out the door. Don't get discouraged, that's what warranty is for. Even a brand new house costing a half million dollars will have a punch list of items to be fixed. Let us know how your dealer handles the repair.

    Thanx,

    Jim
  • The slide may be misaligned and need to be adjusted. Test operation after the repair, but before you leave the dealers lot. Make sure it is fixed to your satisfaction.
