NO it is NOT an accurate statement. My current Goodyear ST tires have an N speed rating. thats 87 MPH.
load index for the tires is 117/112N. Max load at 65 is 2833lbs at 87 it is 2469.
Look at tire sidewall for a load index rating.
Ahd Maxxis and a several others rate their tires at well above 65mph, but with a slightly decreased load carrying capacity.
And speed ratings other than the std 65mph ST rating require much more stringent testing, longer times at the rated speed, more severe overload etc.
IMHO a more accurate statement is that SOME ST tires continue to carry a 65mph rating, but more and more ST tires have either an increased speed rating or a detrating for speeds above 65mph.
