You're spot on with the stopping distance point. In a car, at 65mph with good tires and brakes on a dry road (coefficient of friction = .7), the stopping distance is 202 feet. At 70mph, the same car will require 234 feet to stop. A lot can happen in those extra 32 feet. Now factor in the weight of an RV, and the condition of the road, and the differential becomes even greater.
So drive whatever speed is appropriate based on your ability, your rig's characteristics, the driving conditions, your comfort zone, and the law.
