spray lube on hitch????

I dont think any spray on lube is heavy enough. I use Vasoline, it's heavy enough to stay put, protects from galling and washes out of clothes easily.

Here's another home-grown remedy: Layers of wax paper.

No muss, no fuss. Unhook, peel the paper off, and throw it away. Use a new piece next time.

They don't make slip plates for WD hitches.

When I pulled my TT I used white lithium grease on the balls (hitch and sway control). The sway control for wiped and regreased when it got really bad, the ball on the hitch every week or two when road tripping, and quarterly on weekend trips.

Thanks for all the info guys. I DO currently use a heavy grease....just keeps getting dirty and then ends up on kids or wifes clothes or skin before I get around to cleaning it. Just looking for a cleaner option. Might look into the white lithium.

The white lithium will turn black in no time. It is only slightly better than regular chassis gresse for soiling clothes and slightly worse for lubrication. There is no perfect answer.

I always pull the ball mount as soon as I unhitch and snap it back in the trailer coupler. It is easy if your DW flips the lever for you. I then padlock the coupler so it is safe for kids and thieves.

I don't know about some of the product recommendations that have been made here, but WHEN you inadvertantly smear some of the grease on your clothes, it would nice if it washed out without staining, right? White lithium grease is the answer in my experience.

Motorcycle chain wax works well too. Doesn't attract much dirt and doesn't wipe off easily onto clothing.

Slip Plate, it's a kind of paint, with graphite impregnated so that it is slippery.

I painted up an old lawn mower deck that had problems with grass clumping with the stuff once. It helped.
