spray on roof

Just had hail damage. Dealer sugesting a "vortex" spray on roof system as better than current EPDM rubber. The only similar thing I can find on internet is a Rhino product. If anyone out there has actually had this type of roof replacement, what are your thoughts and experiences on your new roof and this product?
  • seems to me thats a quick fix and cheap for them. BUT in 1979 we built a new home with spray on rubber something on the cement block, our house has never leaked a round the foundation.
  • Here is one company and some information. I don't know about on here, but there are many folks that have used the various products available on many of the manufacturers forums.
  • there is a recent thread about a product used instead of rhino lining. IMHO anything would be an upgrade from rubber EPDM.

  • Vortex is similar to Rhino and LineX spray on liners.

I've read posts on several RV forums where the Bed Liner products including Herculiner (DIY paint on/roll on) works very well to seal the roofs and provide a long term solution as a EPDM replacement.

You can get Herculiner at auto parts stores and online.
  • I like rvroof.com, but they are only in Florida. Next would be the Rhino liner (the RV elastomer type, not the bedliner, as the bedliner doesn't stretch/flex and isn't made to stop leaks.)

IMHO, anything is an upgrade from TPO/EPDM. I've even wondered about the 48 inch wide rolls of Eternabond for a roof.
  • Thank you all for your input and help! Is there anyone out there that has had one of these roofs installed?
  • I did not have a spray on roof installed, I used the roll on Herculiner, and it worked well. However it is very strong chemicals, and the smell was around for at least a week. I installed Herculiner. For a 30' roof, it took 5 gallons. $125 a gallon, and another $300 or so in supplies, chemical resistant gloves, suit, chemical respirator, ect.

    Fred.
  • So long as they aren't cheap at the seams I think it would be big step up for you. That stuff is tough.
