This debate has raged for as long as I have been on the forums, and likely will never end. For arguments sake were talking about 16 inch sized tires only. Because there is simply not enough LT tires available in 13,14, or 15 inch sizes to have a meaningful discussion.
People tend to stick with what they have. GM people will continue to buy GM products no matter how many problems they have. Same for Ford of Chrysler. This also holds true for tires, and politics. People either love or hate tire brands depending on who told them what without doing research with an open mind. I think if more people would actually sit down and read the tire testing standards for an ST tire compared to a LT tire they would see for them selves that ST tires are tested to a much lower standard. And as such are also manufactured to a much lower standard. Smply put they do not have our lives at stake, so why make a ST tire that can run at 99 MPG? It just does not make economic sense if your going to sell the tire to RV manufacturers for less than 50 dollars each to test it to the higher standards, and not make as much profit.
Foolish as this debate all is, no one is going to convince uninformed people to change their minds on this subject. Until people stop following blindly the media talking points and actually take the time to do the research necessary to make intelligent decisions, this country is going to continue to be in trouble from foreigh intrests pushing inferior products down our throats.
Personal experience so far in 8 years of ownership of my current fifth wheel. It came OE with LT tires. They lasted 7 years with no problems. Last year I replaced them with another set of American manufacturerd LT tires, and fully expect to get another 6+ years of service out of these tires. If I dont, oh well! They will still hold up better, tow better and last longer than any ST tire I could install.
