Start RVing part-time by renting my house

Not sure the best forum to post this but I'll start here. My company is closing our office and I will be allowed to work from home rather than relocate. This will begin in a few weeks. I have been researching the past six months or so trucks and truck campers. Plan to retire in four years but this work from home has brought new possibilities. I would like to test the waters regarding the RV lifestyle and make some trips, but of course I still have an 8-5 work week. But, it really doesn't matter if I am at home or not, as long as I have access to a cellular network I can use my laptop via a Mifi. I live in Bella Vista, Arkansas. It's a semi-retirement village with lakes and golf courses. So I'm thinking about using VRBO or similar service to rent my house while I'm on a trip. It would be extra income that could pay the note on a truck/truck camper purchase. We have a local company that does short term/long term renting as well. I'll check with them this week. But the overall intent is this may allow me to get out for a week or so if I have the place rented and visit some places, not have to take vacation days as I would work during the day. Any one taken a similar path that has any advice on this idea?
  • If the decision to full time in 4 years has been fully discussed and the family is in agreement that this what they all want to do, I would sell the house and use the money to buy the RV rig of your dreams, spending as much as the $$$$$ will provide. I would not start with the idea of buying an entry level RV with the intent of buying/trading in for a bigger unit in the future. You might get lucky with renters for 4 years or it could be a nightmare for 4 years!!!!!!! In either case you have already made your decision to live in an RV after retirement.:):)
  • your going to open a real can of worms renting short term, the people just don,t care what they do to your house, like this, two nice young people stop at the rental office sign for a three month lease, AND PARTY EVERY NIGHT with there bike gang.
