It depends...
If we want full hookups, we stay at commercial RV parks.
If we want fishing, or quiet, we stay at state parks or Forest Service campgrounds. Out here, such campgrounds/parks usually have NO "amenities". It is "primitive camping" at its best! There will often be one water faucet and one vault toilet for each 5 campsites. NO bath house, NO electrical hookup, NO cell service, NO sewer hookup, NO dump station, NO garbage pickup, just a fairly level place to park, a picnic table, and a firepit. The nearest town is often more than 10 miles away.
such places are GREAT!
EDIT: Somebody mentioned reservations. Many (if not most) of the government campgrounds around here have no reservations. Some do, but not many. Some have reservable group sites.
Shucks, some don't even have "sites", just get off the road and park!
