We have no interest in the "resort" type CGs. We don't use the pool, don't have kids and don't sit at the CG all day and like dahkota much prefer the national parks, COEs, BLMs and other federal & state parks. If you're old enough for the geezer pass, you can get half off in most federal CGs.
Many of the federal parks are older and sites are tight for big rigs (one reason we went with a MH under 30'). Many are not full hook ups and some have no hook ups. There seems to be more restrictions for dogs in the NPs than state.
Camping and traveling are different though! Traveling is a one night stop...pull in in time for cocktails, eat supper, go to bed and do it again the next day. Camping is sitting in one place for several nights and dragging out the canopy, chairs, tables, rugs & kitchen sink and then wondering why on earth you have all that stuff when you have to pack up. ;)
