States Map Protocol

Got a new rv and it doesn't have a sticker map yet. What is the protocol for posting the stickers. Is it the states that the RV has visited, the states I have visited and stayed at, or the states I have used the RV in? I think I am going to start over new but looking for recommendations.

Thanks.
  • Same question was asked a while back.

My rules: Map is sig is states I've camped in, though not exclusive to my current RV.

My rule for states visited is I had to spend the night or do something local, with the minimum being a mom and pop restaraunt of a local flavor. Driving through on the interstate doesn't count for my rules.

I do think it's important to establish your criteria so your list has personal meaning and so you can plan to fill gaps.
  • We add a state if we have done something in the state.
Driving through doesn't count for us. Neither does camping in the state. We have to be RVing, but we have to experience the state somehow; a museum, a park, etc.

I saw someone's last year and he had Hawaii on his. I asked him how he camped in Hawaii and he responded that not all of his visited states were places he had taken his RV. Several of the visited states on his RV were places he had flown to. That didn't make much sense to me. Why put it on the camper if you don't take your camper there?
    To each their own.
    Happy camping!
  • Your map and stickers, your rules.

My rule for car road trips etc. has been that my feet (or shoes) need to touch the ground in the state to count it. Others are somewhat more restrictive. My rule for the map on the side of my RV is somewhat up in the air because the previous owners put the map up but didn't include the states to put in the map framework. I currently look like I've been nowhere.
  • I believe the "official" protocol would be to put up a sticker for each state you spent the night in. That said, I suspect most of us don't adhere to that protocol. I know I don't.
  • When I see the US map that members show on here, I think it would be fun to leap frog and show every other state.
  • I have been within the borders of 48 of the 50 states. But many of them I just crossed a small corner even though I may have spent the night there. So to me, those maps mean very little. Just do whatever you want.
  • Welcome to the forum.
As you now know, it's up to the individual.
I like to mark the states I visit with the RV. We don't always camp in the state. Sometimes we just visit an attraction.
Enjoy your travels and Mark your map as you please.
  • BUT...if asked, you better be able to converse about each place noted!!!
Just Say'in! The 'map' is a great conversation starter in the campgrounds when you meet new 'friends'.
  • It's really very simple: there is no protocol, do whatever you want. No one will notice and, honestly, no one will quiz you. Post if you've been there, post if you're going there, post if you'd like to go there. It's entirely up to you.
