steer safe stabilizer

I am trying to get an idea how much the springs should stretch when installed correctly.Should they have small or large gaps in the springs indicating that they are stretched? How should the springs stretch look when installed properly?

hi I have installed the steer safe. The instructions say to tighten nut on spring all the way ! wheels straight. Reread the instructions, I know they are a little vague. You can call the 800#, they will also help you.I have a 2013 Coachman Mirada with F-53 chassie. They made a big differents in driving. My next project is air ride bags, the F-53 is a rough ride. good luck.
You will love the effect of installing the air bags. I installed softer riding Monroe gas shocks at the same time as the bags, and it made a great combination.
  • This video will show you what they look like, both before and after installation. They are installed in a relaxed condition, because the nylon inserts in the eye bolt nuts are only finger tight. After positioning the steer safe, the springs are stretched the length of the threaded portion of the eye bolts (approximately 2.5 inches) by tightening the nuts until the eye is snug to the pivot bracket.
  • I would like to know how the springs should look at the stopped straight ahead position. When the springs are in there stationary straight ahead position.
  • They will look very stretched in a hard turn, but if you install the units as directed by the instructions, they will not be overly stretched.

The springs will have significant tension on them even in the most relaxed (straight ahead) position. When you turn, one spring stretches further while the other spring relaxes.

It's this pre tension condition that allows for the final, no drift, steering adjustment.
