Steer tires

Does tread pattern on the steer tires influence sway. I suspect that it does. What tires would be recommended. I pull with a 2007 Chevy Tahoe.

Yeah...tread patterns and tread depth can cause a trailer to sway ...usually until the tire is broke in. MT and AT with large lugs and voids can exhibit tread roll and cause the trailer to sway.

Generally a good AS or a tire with a tread pattern with solid ribs something like the tread pattern on a class 8 tractor once its broke in can eliminate sway issues.

What size/load range tire do you need. We have no idea what size you have on the vehicle.
  • New tires can also cause sway and handling problems when towing. I had a sway problem with my Ford pulling our TT the first time or two.
  • Does it sway when you aren't towing? My guess is move some weight forward in your trailer.
  • They will only effect handling if a belt is broken. Some tread patterns can create wander, but if your having handling problems look at suspension and tires them selves.
