I installed a switch on the accessory line for mine, I did it to turn off the backlighting as it bothered me when trying to sleep. It may solve your issue as well but you can still use the radio as before by flipping the switch.
Many Alpine and Kenwood models will go completely off when long pressing the "Source" button. The amp draw also drops too.
