Clean Air Act Title 42 Chapter 85 Subchapter II Part A Section 7522(a):

(B) for any person to manufacture or sell, or offer to sell, or install, any part or component intended for use with, or as part of, any motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine, where a principal effect of the part or component is to bypass, defeat, or render inoperative any device or element of design installed on or in a motor vehicle or motor vehicle engine in compliance with regulations under this subchapter, and where the person knows or should know that such part or component is being offered for sale or installed for such use or put to such use; or


It is illegal per FEDERAL statute to "slap a piece of exhaust pipe" on the vehicle rather than replace a stolen CC. Any shop doing this, regardless of the state, is commiting a federal crime. Any individual doing this, regardless of the state, is commiting a federal crime.

In addition, a cheap fix like this will fail any smog check required by any state and result in fines.

Are you saying you'd forego your vacation over something like this?
Nowhere did I suggest it as a permanent repair (although it could be, if the vehicle was smog inspection exempt...and they don't live next door to an honorary member of the exhaust emissions police, lol)

PS, those are not catalytic converters, DPF and SCR in the back storage of my shop, those are, ummm, automotive artwork!

PPS, you aint exactly saving the planet driving around a 45 year old Dodge motorhome.....glass houses, remember.
