What about the fabric jobbies that can be recovered in a few years or how long? Hubby was going to build one but I am kind of not going for that...any easy ones? He mentioned fabric and recovering...

Depending on what part of NY your in, with the amount of snow you get up there , I don't think anything Fabric will last a year, the metal car port types will last a lot longer, if it has an A frame type roof, again, depending on the amount of snow, 3-4' of heavy wet snow can & has brought down even a stick built garage.
