Thank you for the report. I had been checking out hotspots for when we camped and more recently because what I generally do on the net is read and check email and hardly justifies what we pay the cable company.
After looking at the hotspots and what they charge for much less data than I get from cable I realized most of what I do can be done on my phone. The downside is how annoying it is to use the tiny screen and type. Last week I got a MHL adapter for $11 that connects the phone to a HDMI monitor or TV as well as a USB keyboard, power cord, ect. IT'S GREAT. Hooked it up, put the phone in landscape mode and had a full screen on my 24 inch TV.
We have Cricket (AT&T) at $55 for 10 GB of data but they cripple flash and tethering so the chance you can use it is pretty slim. PDA+ will let me hook up a computer but up in the mountains the signal only comes in early and then there is no data the rest of the day. A Wilson sleek might help, don't know.
One thing I noticed is the signal for a phone on AT&T's network vs a phone partnered with AT&T is worlds apart in speed. A T-Moble phone was barely usable in the same spots.
