strange tire wear

photos below... Whats causing this?

The back tires on my 2013 28ft Salem Cruise Lite are wearing on the INSIDE of each rear tire. The trailer has about 5-7k miles on it. This same thing happened on my previous 18 camper pulled by same Tow Vehicle. Here is my setup-
Tow Vehicle- 2005 Chevy 2500HD Silverado
Weight Distribution Hitch- YES (put on 1st or 2nd chain link)
Sway bar- YES
Tow Vehicle- 2013 Salem Cruise Lite by Forrest River

I suspect that maybe I shouldnt be using the weight distribution bars... maybe they are putting too much weight on back tires?

  • It certainly looks like an alignment issue. It could either be axle angle or negative camber. Either way, I'd recommend you find a facility that can perform an alignment on your trailer and bend the axles if needed. Then put on the best quality tires you can afford.
  • Had the same problem with our 5er when new, had axle alignment checked & was good. Problem turned out to be the cheap chinese tires that came on the trailer. Replaced them with some BF Goodrich Commercial TA tires made in the USA and never had the problem again.
  • Trailer axle alignment. I'm having the same issue and have an appointment with a trailer alignment specialist recommended by my dealer when we get back to our "area of origination." If it were shoulder wear on both the inner and outer shoulders of the tire, it would be under-inflation.
