Strongback Chairs

Time to replace our camping chairs. Found the Strongback Elite, Core and Zen chairs on their website which I think is the only way to order them; can't find any retailers who carry them. Anyway, anyone have recent experience with these chairs. They are very expensive and if you don't like them you do have to pay a return them. I am 5' and my camping partner is 5'7". Any info would be greatly appreciated. Happy camping.
  • Strong supporter of Strongback chairs here. I’m a full grown 6’ 300 lb. +/- specimen with a back that can get very sore. After some debate, I took the plunge and spent strong money for a quality camp chair. After years of accepting a lesser chair while camping, this has definitely been money well spent. I would buy one again in a heartbeat. Very solid with great lumbar support. It’s not only comfortable for me, but is very comfortable and supportive for smaller people that have borrowed it.

A Strongback Chair complimented with a zero gravity recliner is the perfect combination for relaxing while camping…..comfortable place to sit…..and a perfect place to nap under a shade tree.

  • We have two that we've had for 3 years now. I have a very bad back (due to bone marrow cancer). I have found it almost impossible to get up & out of regular folding camp chairs, with their swaybacks, not to mention how much they hurt! When we got these Strongback chairs, they were on sale & we got them for $40 (CDN)each, a really good deal. We use them all the time camping and they have very supportive lumbar regions built into them. I can sit all day and not be bothered with back pain. I like the fact they fold right up.
  • I have had 2 of the Strongback chairs for 2 years. Great chairs. Comfortable. They have held up well.
  • DW got herself a Portal brand folding chair. If I looked at the correct photos, it's similar to the Strongback Zen chair. Comfortable and seems sturdy - $42 at Ace Hardware.

I got a La Jolla plush recliner for myself. I doubt there's a more comfortable folding recliner. I have a bad lower back (congenital + car accident) and for me, a recliner is more comfortable for longer periods of time. It does have a nasty tendency to put you to sleep tho. :R

  • I have back issues and really liked the strong back I got about 5 years ago. I have only seen one other inward curved back design like these that I got at Dicks Sporting goods maybe 6 years ago. That brand was Quest at less than half the price.I think they may have started enforcing the patent.

My only complaint is the fasteners. I am 250, but have had 2 bolts fail. Also, fasteners should be stainless for a $100 chair, any beach exposure and they will not last. Mine is badly rusted and I cannot use.
  • Thanks to everyone for responding to my inquiry regarding the Strongback chairs. You have given me the courage to spend the big bucks. Think I will buy one and see if it works for each of us. I am a little worried that at 5' the Elite might be a bit high for me. Should work for my taller traveling partner. NOW IF I COULD ONLY FIND A SALE. Anyway, thanks again and happy travels to all.
