What it sounds like it's bouncing
You coil out up nice and lay the cord end on top
Then it bounces around and there is a coil loop or two opened up
You reach in and pull out the cord end ... between the coils
You might try this
a piece of something flat and rigid that will just fit thru the door, plastic or plywood
Cut a slot, big enough for the cord to slide into but not big enough for the cord end
You want this to act like a collar
Coil cord..But not all the way..leave end having out
Then place collar on top of coil
Then push cord into slot with cord end on top of collar
This should keep coil loops down and cord end on top
