Mine has an access door about 6" by 6". I feed the cord in, sort of coiling it on the floor of the compartment. The plug gets plugged into the generator outlet in the compartment, that controls the bouncing mentioned by MrWizard. I can't remember ever having a problem with having the cord tangle.
Having said that, it will probably be a tangled mess the next time I try to use it.
