Sulfur smell from water heater

A friend of mine has an Atwood water heater and had a sulfur smell in the hot water this past weekend. What could be causing this and what could be the fix?

I looked for an anode rod but only saw a plastic drain plug.

Thanks for any help!!!!

What was the source of water he used, it could be he got sulfur water.
Also,I don't believe an Atwood has an anode rod, and if he flushes it with bleach, make sure he re-flushes with straight water as bleach is a corrosive.
  • As I understnad it, that's actually a growth in the tank.
He needs to flush and maybe bleach it.
