Those plug-in units do absolutely nothing to protect against undervoltage or overvoltage (such as a 30A RV outlet miswired for 240V), will not protect the hardwired and expensive appliances in the RV, and frankly are of rather limited use for surges that they claim to protect from.
The overvoltage and undervoltage protection of the RV "surge guard" type of units is IMHO their most valuable feature. I suspect you're more likely to toast your microwave, converter, A/C, etc. due to a miswired or malfunctioning power pedestal than from a surge in the electrical grid.
I agree but they are good for spikes from equipment being turned on and off and storm related causes.
They are better than nothing especially during a storm.
