Thanks for all the input, Gents! It was just one of those opportunities to increase my humility and come out unscathed. I think it was Chuck Yeager who said that you start your flying career with a full bag of mistakes and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to transfer the contents of the mistake bag into the experience bag without killing yourself. I fully agree with (and appreciate) all the prevention comments. I would still like to know what kicked in and saved the day but not bad enough to try it again!
