Mine is inexplicably just behind the axle. After the incident above I drained 3/4 of the fresh tank and everything was MUCH more stable for the rest of the trip.
The groan I heard lasted for a good 2-3 seconds and continued unchanged until I was straight. I can duplicate the sound by going heavy on the brake lever for a quick burst. When it stopped I FELT the brakes release. I’m pretty sure it was the trailer brakes. Just not sure what made them come on.
You definitely need to get to the bottom of the brake issue if you truly feel they were activated. Your vehicle will not/should not activate the trailer brakes without some intervention by the driver. Either the vehicle brake pedal or the controller manual lever.
Could that have caused the sway to begin I have no idea but what you are describing is not normal brake activity for your setup.
