sway control needed?

Going to tow today for the first trip with my new 2014 F 150.
It has built in electronic trailer sway control.
I normally use a friction type control.
Who uses both? or is the old friction unit not necessary with factory "trailer sway control" ?

  • The Ford electronic sway control doesn't kick in till the sway is getting scary. You really don't want to ever get to that point.
  • Same here on both. Recently we had a tire separate and the sway control on the TV along with the trailer connection, kept everything under control - DH helped a lot too!
  • I agree with the others. The trucks electronic sway control is reactionary so you'll still want at least a friction sway control to keep sway from happening or small enough the electronic one never needs to kick in.
  • We used both on our F250/tt set up. Because of the friction sway control, we never used the electronic sway control. But we were glad to have it just in case.
  • Thanks ChooChooman:
It's all hooked up. Be pulling out after a shower.
Friction sway control is on. I wanted to get opinions from here. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge, preventing me from doing some stupid things.
I appreciate all the advice I have gotten here.
    Time to go camping.

  • The factory "sway control" only helps after the sway condition starts. It uses the vehicles brakes to attempt to bring the sway under control. Best, in my opinion, to have a proper setup to prevent sway in the first place.
