swaying

having "severe" swaying with my 2014 salem hemisphere lite 282rk, pull with 2010 crew cab lariat with tow package v8. using reese dw. any ideas and or products that might "cure" this issue. wife is tried of white knuckles!! thanks, dan
  • also wanted to add, the truck has a anti sway and if the tt starts to sway the abs will kick in and will show up on the dash and slow the truck down. we can feel the brakes kick in and the swaying motion. as a pilot this type of motion doesn't bother me, however, my wife thats a different story!! thanks
  • thanks, we have not taken it to the scales. our recent trip to osh kosh, wi for airventure and the 2nd time pulling it to this event proved the same. even tried different links on the wdh and no luck. I'm at a loss as we had a 1993 jayco eagle 300 fk and pulled it with this truck and no issues and same wdh rocking a little, in cross winds, but swaying never. thanks!!
  • Have you ever weighed your rig?

It took me a couple of trips to the scal to get my WDH setup properly. Without weighing it there is no way to be sure the WDH is set up correctly.
  • we have a ford f-150 with lt tires with c range and 30,000 miles on original tires. we evenly distribute weight inside tt. reese is a v5, 10,000lb with 1,000 tongue & ez anti sway. definitely has the swaying going on . I get above 60-65 mph and were off to the races!! the trailer is 35' tongue to bumper about 6800 dry weight psi in tires usually 40-50 psi cold. thanks

    One word, HENSLEY!

I agree with you. A Hensley is not considered a band aid but a solution. Distributing your items inside for each trip is not a solution either. Get the right equipment. When we had an F250 short bed, we towed a 27' and 29' TT with no problem. We then bought a longer trailer, at 32'. Sway like you wouldn't believe. A standard weight distributing hitch didn't help. We decided to try the Hensley and with a money back guarantee, it was the best deal. What could we lose? It worked out great and we never looked back till we traded in the TT for a 5W and traded in the Hensley Arrow for a Hensley TrailerSaver BD3 - the name says it all.
  • Welcome to the forum!

Few things. Is it really sway? And, if it is, it is better to cure the sway than to band aid it.

1st, is it continuous oscillation over a certain speed? Or, is it a push/pull feeling when trucks go by.

Have you taken it to the scales? I see this is a rear kitchen model, that is light on the tongue from the specs. A lot of people stock the kitchen with heavy stuff, taking more weight off the tongue. This is also a 35' long sail behind you.

    You say you have a crew cab lariet. F150, F250, F350, F450.

Also, if you have an F150, do you have LT or P rated tires. Are you feeling the squishiness of the light duty P rated tires.

Could this be a combination off all factors??

    What size truck..?
What kind of sway control equip? You said "Reece dw." details?

Your trailer is a 35 footer.

    and...welcome to the Forum.
