taking vicodin INTO Mexico

I have been taking vicodin for back pain and Brucitus in my hip. We will be going to Mexico and I was wondering if there would be a problem taking my prescription across the border with me. It would be in the original drugstore container with the prescription number and my name on the bottle. Anyone have experience with this?

  • I know you can't bring it back but what is wrong with buying some in Mexico for use in Mexico.
  • More than likely, you will not be checked for drugs.

We came across on Tuesday and got boarded. The agricultural inspector warned the DW about the plants in the sink and told her not to bring them next time. They opened a couple of cabinet doors, didn't look in the fridge or freezer.

A couple of days later, another rig, huge 5th wheel with big tractor pulling it got stopped because they thought he was a commercial truck. Spent a couple of hours searching and took all his meat products.
  • Yes they can search any part of the RV and what is in it to any extent that they desire. However they do not have time to spend 10 minutes searching each of the 100,000 vehicles that cross daily, so risk is very low that they will want to check your vehicle.

It probably is less expensive to buy the medications inside Mexico. You are allowed to bring back a 'reasonable' amount of medication. 1000 pills will exceed that limit. 20 day supply can be considered reasonable, something in between is up to question. . .

    Good luck!

    Fred.

    Bringing Prescription Drugs to Mexico

You are allowed to bring prescription drugs into Mexico provided that you have the accompanying documentation which proves a medical need. If you or a member of your family are taking prescription drugs, be sure to take the prescription/doctor's note with you, which includes the patient's name and the name of the medication(s) to prove medical need of the drugs you are carrying in case your luggage gets inspected.

  • You can walk across with anything. Driving.. don't know. My first thought would be "don't tell them." There just might be a website about this.
