Tech changes

Off topic a bit cuz this thread is about RV televisions ... BUT, my home theater's video is made up of a 58 inch widescreen high definition digitally controlled CRT projection monitor that displays fantastic images.

My home widescreen LED flatscreen TV cannot touch the CRT monitor on color reproduction accuracy and absolute black level rendering.

Of course most folks could care less about ultimate image accuracy being the highest priority - good enough is good enough - so flatscreen LCD, LED, plasma, and OLED TV screens are the name of the game for a whole bunch of other reasons.

Our Suite in 2008 came with a 40" LCD upgrade and 19" LCD in bedroom. Now they are upgrading to a 46" LED or better yet, some have 50".

We upgraded our LCDs to a 46" 3D LED and bedroom to a 26" LED.

I think 2006/20007/2008 was the major change over to flat screens. High ends went flat in 2006. Our 2007 Holiday Rambler Endeavor had a flat screen in front and clunker CRT in bedroom. Most manufacturers changed over to flat screens in 2008.

In 2010 we got our 60 inch plasma.
Weighs in at 90 pounds I think...it has been problematic.
I dumped a perfectly good 35 inch CRT that weighed in at 240 pounds.
The CRT lasted for maybe 10 years or longer and still worked on the way out.

The recyclers picked it up, snipped the cord and just dumped it on it's face and kicked it into the truck.

At our campground someone put a small CRT Tv on a picnic table with "free' on it. It sat for days until he taped a Canadian $2.00 coin (called a twoonie) on the screen with a sign that said "free twoonie, must take TV". That got a lot of laughs.

We were very glad to see the TV in our Class A when we bought it. Its a vizio that has wifi built into it. We have been using hulu at camgrounds that support the bandwidth requirements.

Other than that, we have a DVR that we record DAYS and DAYS worth of TV shows that we like. When we are at a campground with poor service, we watch the DVR. We also post the campgrounds poor internet service online for others to know about. In this day and age, for many, decent internet is a necessity...

If there are local digital broadcast signals that can be picked up where you happen to be, it's possible to watch tv on your computer without a satellite dish, cable or wifi. You would need a digital tv receiver/tuner to put in line between an antenna and the computer.

They are a real thing. Just Google "digital tv tuner for computer" and sift through the results for something that fits your particular 'puter. Or just look on Amazon - these days, they seem to sell everything.

Of course, if you're addicted to dish/cable tv shows, this solution won't work. But if you just want to watch some news, weather, network programming, PBS, some sports or one of the new digital channels that show movies and original programming, you can use your computer's nice big monitor. No dedicated tv set needed.
