We have never spent much time in campgrounds during the day except rainy days. Our kids grew up hiking and biking. We also vacationed in Nat'l Parks and we were busy all the time. I am sure it is tougher now since kids are use to having electronics. Have a family meeting before going and find out what they want to do, have lists of possibilities in the area you are going. I bought the book, Scary Campfire Stories I and II. (I think that was the title.). This is no book for little ones. I would read stories aloud at night when the kids were teens. They loved it and I never slept after reading them. Good luck!\
