Tennessee is Safer than other places

If anyone watches Alaska State Troopers regularly like I do, you'd think Alaska is full of drunks, derelicts, and violent criminals only. Like ANY statistical data, you must look at the criteria given. Any state that has either a high poverty rate and/or a large number of big cities will jump to the top of the list. Didn't read the whole thing, but did they look at DC's crime rate? On paper it's enough to scare the pants off of anyone. Like others have said, just be careful. Anyone can be a victim of a crime, anywhere, any time, any place.

Oh, have been to Tennessee and LOVED it. Dying to get back there.
