Texas - trailer inspection

Would "return to Texas" include just passing thru and maybe spending a couple of nights in an RV park? Or does it mean spending x number of nights in the state.

The thing I'm getting at is that many folks who use the Escapees address as their mailing address have never actually "lived" in Texas nor do they have any intention to do so. They are full time RVers so they don't really live anywhere.

You are exempt until you return to Texas. On your return you must get it inspected.

I know this thread is a little dated but have a question regarding the Texas trailer inspection.

If you maintain your official residence and mailing address in Texas (as a lot of Escapees members do) but you actually are a full time RV'er who hasn't been in Texas in the last 10 years, are you exempt from the inspection or do you have to make a trip to Texas every year before you can renew your tags?

I had my trailer inspected and wnet to the county tax office three days later to get license renewal. The central computer had not been updated to show a valid, current inspection, but I had the print-out from the inspection station with me, and that was accepted. So, don't count on the automated system as yet...

OTOH, I did the same with my truck and the computer system worked as advertised.

Amazingly, the inspection fee has not changed. What HAS changed is that now we are forced to get inspections. In the past no one did them because the law never checked for a sticker. So in that regard it is a money maker.

I am glad that Fl. did away with those inspections. Each inspector had his own way to inspect and would send you to his buddy down the street to repair the problem, the long lines finally caught one of or politicians attention ( he had to wait for3 hours in line) so they repealed the law.

When I moved back to Texas I had to get my previous rig inspected before they would issue a license plate. When I bought my existing in Texas the dealer installed an inspection sticker before I drove off with it. Received the plate in the mail from DMV, Also get renewal in the mail and they send a sticker to put on the license. This month will be 3 years since inspection.. Will have to get it inspected for when it comes up for renewal

Dang I thought that if you got arrested they had to issue a new drivers license, not deport you, looking forward to registering my RV and toad in Texas.
