The best Wranglers for towing?

There seems to be a myriad of Wrangler models and options. How much heavier are the 4doors than the 2dr? Are there any 4dr models that come in under or slightly over 4k lbs? It seems 4k is cut off weight, not sure if because of the hitch capacities or braking? Which model configurations make the best toads and get the best fuel mileage? Can one person possibly sleep in a 4dr version but not in a 2dr? Any other considerations regarding plus and minuses of the different models especially in terms of towing and all around versatility?
  • And what about the 6 speed manual, wjat year dod they first offer it? How many speeds did the manual have before the 6spd?
  • My 2005 Wrangler Unlimited has a 6 speed manual.
I had an earlier Wrangler (don't remember what year, it was long ago) that had a 5 speed manual.
Other than that, I do not know for sure.
  • As mentioned above, the Ford C-Max is a good option as it is a hybrid. We bought ours in 2017 and love it, getting 47-50 MPG. I do not believe Ford is making them anymore, so you would have to settle for a used one. They come in a plug in model also.
  • Regardless of your toad dilemma, your intended use doesn’t make sense to me.
Aside from RVs, the rest of the units you mention don’t or typically don’t have square trailer hitch receivers, so you can’t tow the toad anyways.
Don’t be pulled into thinking you’ll have some clamp on receiver system that will work well, or at all.
