The guy 2 sites down, with the super strength bug zapper!

I sit here in a quiet PA state park. Not many people here, maybe a dozen. I have a fire burning and it's a dark sky area so the milky way is visible. It's phenomenal here except for the guy with the 30" high bug zapper who has went to bed and left the thing zapping away. Did I mention it's half an hour past quiet time? What in the he'll is a bug zapper going to do in the woods on a mountain, next to a lake? Annoy everyone else maybe and probably attract more bugs to his site than without it. Some people amaze me to no end. I guess a stop at the ranger station will be in order tomorrow before the bug zapper takes a 3 AM trip to the dumpster.

Not to mention they spray bug parts over a very wide area.. 100 feet or more (Easily two sites over)
  • I have to chuckle when I think of our first bug zapper when they first came out many moons ago.
We hung one in the back yard, and very much enjoyed watching the ring of toads on the ground under it gobbling up the insects as fast as they fell.

No, we haven't had one in years. they are a complete waste of money.

We use a thermacell now that works like a charm

  • Dutch,

I don't know what or which bug zappers you use or have seen but the one we have on our private owned National Forest land patio up north is always full of dead mosquitos and some dead house flies year after year. Guaranteed, dead mosquitos and flies don't ever bite!
  • Maybe someone should show him the research showing that bug zappers primarily attract and kill beneficial bugs that are generally harmless to humans. They catch very few mosquitoes and other biting insects that are attracted to the CO2 we exhale rather than the ultraviolet lights used in bug zappers.
  • Some people will crab about anything! Hopefully the ranger will tell the guy that he can zap twice as many bugs if he uses 2 zappers. 3 times as many with 3 zappers. If enough campers would have big bug zappers going 24/7, maybe a lot of the CG's would become bug free! Then they wouldn't have to have so many zappers going! Sounds like a plan!!!
