I resisted as long as I could, but, couldn't stand it:) First, I have zero knowledge about heavy towing with a short wheelbase (I've never owned one). Though many folks consider it a non issue. So, I'll ignore that aspect of the topic. While our truck is not a daily driver, it gets used thru all Wyoming seasons. A dually "sucks" on snow and ice, and for us, two trucks is not practical. So, the dually is DOA! Our rig is approx. 20K with 3500# or so pin weight. So, on our srw, we're at or over on the rears. But, we've done very little long distance trips. But, that is soon changing. Our solution (while keeping the swr), is to upgrade tires/rims. We're going to Rickson Wheels and 19.5" (commercial tires). Plenty of load capacity, stiff sidewalls for lateral stability, and same OD as my stock 17" tires. It is not a cheap solution, but gives you the load capacities (+) of a dually, without many of the downside issues of the dually. Something to ponder!;). memtb
