Unless God grants me the ability to rise from the dead after an accident, I would never leave the house with a 20k trailer with 3,500# of pin weight if I already knew I was at or over on the rears. That's just begging for catastrophic failure. I don't play Russian Roulette, and I don't tow "under-trucked". The additional stability and load carrying that I get from my dually is priceless, and gives me peace of mind. I know that I'm not endangering myself, or any of the other innocent people that share the road with me.
So, the dually is DOA! Our rig is approx. 20K with 3500# or so pin weight. So, on our srw, we're at or over on the rears.
It does suck in the snow, though. ANY pickup with no weight over the drive axle sucks in the snow, but the dually is a lot easier to break loose in poor traction.
As stated, aren't making many road trips. For the previous 4 years, all but two trips were less than 100 miles each way. And, am dropping approx. $2500.00 to upgrade tires/rims to give me plenty of load carrying capacity. If/when we pass on the road, we should be as safe as is feasible. Hopefully, won't cause you any sleepless nights! memtb
