It is possible that these campers simply did not or do not know that you can purchase totes to drain the gray water into to transport to a dump station. I wouldn't have been quick to jump on them, but I would have approached them in a friendly manner to suggest they change their practices.
You're kidding, right?
Ummm, no? Actually, I could really gives a rats patootie if they want to drain their gray water onto the ground - I'd bet it was less than 5 gallons of soapy water (have any of you even seen the teeny-tiny sinks in a pop-up?), and would make way less mess than a rainstorm. But, given the choice of a.) they get "reported" to the office, b.)they get lectured by an angry irate camper, or c.)I approach them and gently suggest they might want to keep a tote handy so they don't get attacked by some freaked-out overly-environmentally-protective know-it-all, then I would chose C.
I grew up camping all over the lower 48 in a pop-up. No gray tank. Never, ever, ever used a dump station. Camped in private and state/national parks. Seems campers of 30 years ago may have had more common sense when it comes to the "disasterous effects" of a little dishwater on the ground.
