We RV because we like to go to natural places, not attractions if that makes sense. A beach with dunes, and not condos.
My buddy takes his family to more touristy campgrounds, and calculates gas cost, and site costs, and compares to a hotel, and about half the time ends up in a hotel.
Alot of the cost depends on the RV, the cost of ownership of a pop-up, is much different than a diesel pusher. We had a Pop-up for 9 years that we sold this summer for $1000 less than we paid for it, and the only maintenance was a new set of tires. I'd say our little pop up paid for itself many times, and created memories for my kids that are priceless.
Also when your daughter wants to take friends camping for her sweet 16 birthday, you realize that maybe something sank in along the way.
