Decisions like this are often made with the 'live for today' attitude, but with that comes serious long-term consequences. If you stay in this lifestyle too long, it will be your lifestyle, forever.
I am comfortably retired, but I didn't earn that by doing just what I felt like at the time. I have many musician friends who are struggling now in their 60s, and 'live for today' isn't so glamorous anymore. I do not envy them, although there was a time I did. By all means, if there's something you can do career-wise, that affords you a secure future, do that now.
Do you really want to work until you drop? That's, unfortunately, often the reality.
