Aren't most of the "truck stops" now called "travel Centers" and don't most rest stops have a "car side" and a "trailer side"?
I frequently stop at, sleep at, relax at any and all of the above whether I am on business or vacation. It is what the rest stops were designed for and it is what the business offer so that I come in their store and spend money.
I applaud your daughter and the trooper. Unless the truck or trailer was in danger there was no reason for the knock on the door or for someone to be looking at the reefer unit.
These situations happen but are few and far between compared to the number of drivers and vacationers and wanderers that cohabitate every night in rest stops, travel centers, big box stores, and even campgrounds.
