When has Oregon charged a one time per foot fee for registration? We moved to Or in 1997, since then I have owned a 5th wheel, a truck camper, a class C, and two class A's, all bought new. I have never been charged a per foot fee, only the regular registration fee. The last time I paid it I think it was $184 for two years. Since then I received a VA disability and get one free vehicle license, no registration fee ever, naturally I put the free license plate on the MH. If I ever want to transfer the free plate to another vehicle there is a $6 transfer fee.

Also, another advantage to living in Oregon is they have no personal property taxes.

NY is cheap compared to others here. I pay $35/year for mine (two years at a time) and annual inspection fee of $25 to a service shop of your choice. Pay sales tax at purchase and that's it. No property tax on anything except actual land/buildings in NY.

In the RV perspective I love VA and the county I live in. In VA a motorhome pays the same as my truck about 47 a year, and due to the county I live in any personal use RV motorhome was just the 25 per year tax sticker fee and the personal properly tax was waived. With my 5th wheel, it was 100 dollar permanent plate, and no tax sticker or personal properly taxes for the trailer due to personal use RV.

That is why about 15 years back a dealer selling Marathons in Oregon got busted for selling land with it in Oregon just for the purpose of registering the coach in Oregon.

Like you but not many others, I chose not to go with the minimum legally required liability amounts, our coverage is significantly higher. This is particularly important when it comes to uninsured/underinsured motorists (which are found in large numbers here in the southwest). This is not "paranoid", merely prudent. :W

Our C is covered for the full purchase price which will continue for the first couple of years. As the value falls with age so will the replacement dollar amount which will coincide with a commensurate drop in that portion of the premium. I know of no company that gives open ended full replacement coverage.

One of the features of having all of my insurance with the local Famers office is the personalized service I receive. Geico and Triple A didn't know me from a hot rock and switching home, auto and RV coverage saved me over $1,000 a year. I make one local call to Kathy (my agent), for any insurance issues and I don't have to press "9" for English. :B

We have always paid around $600-$650 a year for insurance on our Class C here in CA - and it is a high end policy from Progressive. i.e. For the unfortunate case of a complete lose, our Progressive RV insurance plan would pay us the original amount we paid for the RV - no prorating at all year after year.

Much of the cost of insurance is tied to the value of the coach (that they may have to replace). Price your current policy against a 2012 and see what that does for your premiums. I shopped several companies, including GS and didn't find comparable coverage for less.
