It wasn't along your route but, the Okoboji, Iowa lakes region is a fun place to be with things to see. West Lake Okoboji is 136 feet deep and covers almost 4000 acres. There is also East Lake Okoboji and Spirit Lake. It is not far from me so I get down there several times a year. It is my "Go To" spot when I want to go camping and do stuff.
