I've used a side mount for about 15 years, since I got my first Jayco 5er. I wouldn't buy another RV without it. I see the hassle my family and friends go through setting up their grills and trying to get them level for cooking. They buy expensive tables or legs to put their grills on. They have to buy extra propane bottles and carry all of this stuff around all the time.
I've never had a problem with grease. And yes you can have smoke under the awning, but that can happen in any case depending on the wind. The only problem I ever had was one RV where the bracket wasn't attached to the RV very well and I took it back to the dealer to get it put on better. All I carry is the bracket and the grill and I'm good to go anywhere.
