I LOVE my side mounted Olympian grill that connects to my camper's propane connection through a port under the wing of the camper. I've never had issues with it and the mount keeps it far enough away from the siding that I don't see it as a problem. It has a cover, so if there are any flareups I just close it... done! Anyway, to each his own in terms of what they feel regarding safety, etc., but I love mine and don't foresee changing to a table top portable in the future (though mine does have a table top option bracket.)
